Came back after 3 years ...
I recently picked up and installed my copy of GW again, it's been over 3 years ago. Tried factions but I didn't like the new classes so I quit. Now I'm back to play GW:EN because I read that the expansion is in the continent where GW:P was played. But a lot has changed. I never even heard of heroes?
I played WoW for a year or two but that's going down the drain. It's still in my fingers tho, I keep pressing space to jump ... My classes are: Wa/? (sword), N/? (Minion Master), Mo/Wa (55 hp farmer) I find it kinda hard to pick up where I left. So I have many questions. * Where can I find good Prophecy/Core-only builds? * Is Minion Master still viable, I hear it's been nerfed? * Are there any places left for a 55hp monk to farm? Did troll cave last night but the loot was horrible. * How much do candy canes go for? * Do people still actually play the prophecies missions? Went to RoF last night and it was abandoned. My main goal now is to finish the Prophecies campaign with my warrior and necro, and find a use for my monk. I like to team up but can't seem to find a lot of players. Who can fill in the blanks for me? Thank you |

With the introduction of other skills the 55 monk has become a bit more out of date, but there are a few places I do believe. You can farm Undead in Gates of Kryta Mission you can farm Undead outside of Bergen (sp?) Springs both in hard mode of course. There are still hydras outside of Augury rock that can be farmed. You should know more of the Sought after skins and such are in Eotn. Regarding the loot, some areas have received the nerf bat a few times so they may seem crappy due to this. I am not sure on Candy Canes ATM I have not followed the Prices very much. People still play the missions but with the addition of Chapters the numbers are spread out more than they used to be. If you need someone to play with feel free to add my character name under my avatar and I can try to play with you if you are on. |

Welcome back.
PvX has builds for proph only chars, but you'll be hard pressed to get a good build without multi-campain skills. MM is as strong as ever, but you are limited to 10 (i think) minions at 16 Death magic. Check out Aura of the Lich. it's now a great MM skill. 55hp is pretty much dead, outside bergen hot springs in HM is okay, as it HM NF City of Tourqua solo, and you can solo the great destroyer with a 55hp. 600/Smite is the new 55hp. I'd sell Candy Canes at 100g/point. Check wiki for points and stuff. Not a huge amount of people do missons anymore with other people, unless it's particularly hard or you're going with guild/alliance firends. Heroes are the new PUGs, like it or not :S |

Cheers for the tips, I forgot about the Undead in Gates of Kryta Mission, farmed them a lot in my time. So this hard mode ... how do I get it?
Heroes ... I never played with them but allready not liking them. How am I supposed to finish the prohecies campagnes now, where there are no heroes available? I'll probably promote my Necro to my new main I really like MM, Aura of the lich seems like an imba skill. *edit: typo |

If you were to buy another campaign, you wouldn't be able to access Hard Mode there until one of your characters did the last missio. Heroes are a love/hate thing. They allow people who don't like playing with people / random people to accomplish things, the downside to this is that people who do like playing with randoms will find difficulty. If there are no people around to mission with you then you have two options really: Go ahead with henches or buy one of the campaigns where you can get heroes. If you're not willing or unable to buy another campaign then really only option 1 is viable for you :/ There's a third choice though. There are still plenty of active Guilds around who will gladly do missions and other things. Have a look around the recruitment forums if you're interested in looking for a guild The new Aura of the Lich is pretty awesome now, yeah. However, don't pigeonhole yourself into playing *just* MM. Try Curses, play about with Blood, do non-minion things with Death. Different things work best for different missions/quests. Playing only 1/3 of a class will seriously limit you. Necros are pretty fun, I looove mine |

It's best you start off with Gwen, get your heroes, get PvE skills, get the groove on so to speak. With heroes you will have a far easier time completing Prophecies. Screw that whole "playing in the right order". Nothing good will come from that, trust me. At this stage you will have a very very very hard time doing Prophecies on your own, while other players might reduce your role to distant visitor. They will zip through while you won't even know whats happening.
For Prophecies the times of full human teams are over. You will meet 2-3 other players and everyone brings heroes to fill the group. That will be a pleasant experience. EotN will get you ready for that. Your 55hp should learn what a 600hp farming monk is. You won't regret it. Your Minion Master is still ultra powerful, even though you need to look into the changes. Your Necro can also be a powerful Necor-Ritualist Healer. Your Warrior is still a Warrior, nothing really changed there. |

Hehe don't be, I had a lot of fun in WoW, but it's becoming too easy and addictive, so I closed that book and will never look back.
About heroes: if I understand this well, I can play EotN, collect heroes, and then go back to where I was in Prophecies (Ring of Fire) and do the missions there with those heroes? This could make things quite easier I think. @ 4thVariety: I read about 600 monks, and they require factions & nightfall, which I don't have. @ Kamara: I have actually finished the Prophecies campaign with a character which I afterwards deleted, that was before Factions tho, don't know if that counts? As for necro's: I never played anything else but MM, would love to try curses, could you help me get started? Remember I only have Proph & EotN. As form my warrior ... don't really like to play with her anymore, but would probably regret deleting her, guess I'll just put her on hold. |

You have to have logged in with the toon who had completed the campaign, after the introduction of Hard Mode, for Hard Mode to unlock. As you deleted the toon before Factions it doesn't count to unlocking Hard Mode.

Ok thanks for all the help. Guess I'll go and pimp my necro, get some builds and armor, throw myself into GWEN, come back with heroes, finish prophecies, and hell maybe by then I'll get factions too and maybe nightfall! Got enough to keep me occupied 'till GW2.

If you need in-game assistance, questions or assistance with a mission, feel free to PM me while logged into the game. I would be more than glad to help in any way that I can.
IGN: Enolena Sedai ...regardless of what is written by therangereminem, the game is not dead. PvE is still strong, there are skills to master, titles to earn and places to explore. |

dont forget to check all your characters for birthday pressents tooo
I actually suggest pickin the other campaigns up, you can get them fairly cheaply. They offer a good range of skills especially for if you love being a Minion Master - which i do too. The most effective builds share skills from other campaign. If on the party window there is a red helmet then taht means you can play hard mode if not, your not too far from the end anyway. After some searching on the internet, and the comments I've read here, I think I probably will buy factions and nightfall too. They both score very good at reviews, and not that expensive. It will be easier to find builds too, like SmithyBen pointed out here. I'll focus on my necro, this seems like a very versatile class (damage dealing, battery, support healing). Can't wait to get playing again

assuming you enjoy pve, the campaigns are worth playing at least once through. just don't expect the content to sustain you indefinitely.

wow three years, that is quite a long time.
I recently came back after one year and feel lost with all the updates that are in. I would say get all games and play them once or twice. The Dungeons are fun to do and most can be done with h/h team. Good luck |

There is quite a bit of new stuff since you've been gone. My best advice is to join a guild, preferably one that uses Ventrilo or Teamspeak. People can show you all the new stuff a lot easier and more fun than trying to get it all on a forum.

Yeah I know hehe, had 3 minatures on each character when I logged in
I'll just start to play factions and I hope everything will get clear as a play. After all, new players also get to learn everything. I'll just play dumb. |

Don't forget to pick up the books from each campaign to track your missions/dungeons.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Storybook You might also wanna check out the Bonus Mission Pack for some nice looking weapons and when you have all campaigns, maybe give the cross-campaign scavenger hunt a go... You'll get a book for that in eotn with all the clues... |
